IHS Service Learning
The Board of Education affirms the importance of a forty-hour service-learning high school graduation requirement as a vital part of the instructional program and supports service-learning as an instructional strategy because it enables students to be confident, effective thinkers and problem-solvers as well as ethical participants in society.
Required Hours by Graduation
Once you hit your required hours for graduation, you do not need to continue submitting hours as they will not be recorded.
Class of 2024: 30 hours
Class of 2025, 2026, 2027: 40 hours
Submission timeline
These are hard deadlines and late submissions will not be submitted. Google form will close on this day and you will no longer be able to submit your hours. Please make sure to periodically check your GC /IC to see if your hours were accepted. If your hours are rejected, a message will be left on the Google classroom assignment about how to fix and resubmit your hours (if applicable).
Summer submissions:
August 16, 2023 - October 12, 2023
for hours completed from May 13, 2023 - August 15, 2023
Final school year submissions for SENIORS:
October 13, 2023 - May 3, 2024
for hours completed from August 16, 2023 - May 3, 2024
Final school year submissions (all others):
October 13, 2023 - May 10, 2024
for hours completed from August 16, 2023 - May 10, 2024
Quick Guidelines
Must provide service through a non-profit 501(c) organization
Use a separate form for different organizations
You cannot receive payment for completing your hours
Maintenance or administrative tasks will not be accepted
An example a task that would not be accepted is filing paperwork or trimming bushes
Service learning must take place outside of school hours
Work for a religious organization that benefits the community at large and does not promote its religion (e.g., clothing drives, food drives, feeding those in need) will be accepted.
Hours spent training for services to be provided are capped at five (5) hours out of your 40 hours and must be directly related to a community-service event.
Students cannot receive more than 8 hours of service in one day.
